We extracted hot water from geysers fitted with heat pumps and measured the volume of water and the temperature change as the water drained. Our tests have shown that other heat pumps with a standard installation onto geysers deliver only 37% to 43% of the geyser tank’s volume at 50oC and above before starting to run cold water.* This is due to stratification within the geyser and because of the heat pump standard installation method. Are you worried about the cost of electricity, given that we will be experiencing price increases way above inflation in the foreseeable future? (In July 2010 electricity went up by a huge 25.8%, Again! In 24 months time electricity will be DOUBLE the cost it is now!)

With Heat Pumps between 70 and over 80 per cent of the required heating energy is supplied by renewable energy from the environment. Heat pumps contribute to saving primary energy and cutting down on CO2 emissions. Heat pumps run locally with zero emissions.

Also, in South Africa, it is not the volume of coal that defines our energy limitations, but rather the availability of water to convert that coal into electricity. Against a global rainfall average of 870mm per year, South Africa receives a pitiful 450mm, making it the worlds 30th driest country. It requires one kilogram of coal and two kilograms of water to generate one kilowatt hour of electricity, but this also emits a large volume of sulphur that has devastating effects in other parts of the economy.
